Shamnad Mohammedillyas, Chief Instructor of Wadokai Oman, has been awarded his 3rd Dan within the International Wado Federation for his continued loyalty and dedication to Wado Karate within the Sultanate of Oman.

Congratulations to Jim Rune Vågheim, of the International Wado Federation Norge, who recently passed his 2nd Dan test at the Wado-Ryu Karate Klubb, Askøy on the 12th of May 2012; Jim achieved a very impressive total mark of 95%.

Les Mansfield Promotion to 6th Dan

Les Mansfield of Wa-No-Michi Canada receives 6th Dan Promotion from the IWF. Les Mansfield of the Wa-No-Michi Karate Academy of Canada has been awarded 6th Dan for his continued dedication to Wado Karate on the 29th March 2012. Notification of this promotion was sent to DJ Jonker Nidan, Instructor to Wa-No-Michi, so as a formal presentation could be made on behalf of the IWF President, Gary E Swift (7th Dan) Kyoshi.

Positive News for Sport-Karate in the Olympics?

International Olympic Committee (IOC), UNESCO & WHO recognise WKC Championships.

The WKC and the organiser of the 5th TAFISA Games (5th to 11th July 2012) in Siauliai, Lithuania, signed a cooperation agreement. The WKC will organise the Open WKC World Championships for Seniors, Juniors & Cadets AND the World Cup for Children under the umbrella of TAFISA. This will be a major event with many other sports. The city of Siauliai is expecting more than 6.000 participants from all parts of the World.
The WKC Karate World Championships are open for all karateka worldwide. The WKC rules, age groups and categories will apply. The Karate Championships will take place from Thursday, 5th July to Sunday, 8th July 2012.
The WKC is proud to be part of these Games for the first time. The 5th TAFISA Games are supported by the International Olympic Committee IOC, the World Health Organisation WHO and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation UNESCO. The TAFISA itself is recognised by these organisations.
“With the inclusion of karate in the TAFISA Games the WKC has made a major step forward in the international sporting community and I urge as many karateka as possible from federations all over the world to attend these championships and be part of the Games”. Source:

Ian Hunter Promotion to 7th Dan

Ian Hunter Awarded 7th Dan

Ian Hunter Renshi, of British Wadokai, was awarded his 7th Dan at the British Wadokai Standardisation Course Part 1, on the 25th March 2012, by the President/Chief Instructor of British Wadokai, Gary E Swift Kyoshi. Ian is British Wadokai’s longest remaining serving member; starting Wado Karate in 1977, under Gary E Swift (7th Dan) Kyoshi, at the age of 12 years old.
